The addendum
was submitted in response to the EHD letter dated 30 October 2012 in which the EHD
conditionally approved Soil Vapor Intrusion Work Plan—August 2092, dated 17 August 2012.
The EHD approvesmAGE's-proposals presented in the addendum with the condition:
W-
• Soil gas samples are analyzed for naphthalene, methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE),
tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME), and 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) in addition to total
petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and total
xylenes (BTEX); and isopropyl alcohol.
• A shut-in test is conducted to check for leaks in the above-ground soil gas sampling
system following the two-hour equilibration period once the vapor probes have been
installed.
According to Advisory — Active Soil Gas Investigations, dated April 2012 published by the
California Environmental Protection Agency Department of Toxic Substances Control, Los
Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, and San Francisco Regional Water Quality
Control Board, to conduct a shut-in test:
• "Assemble the above-ground valves, lines, and fittings downstream from the top of the
probe.
• Evacuate the system to a minimum measured vacuum of about 100 inches of water
using a purge pump.
• The test is conducted while the sampling canister, if used, is attached with its valve in
the closed position.
