DOMESTIC WELL SAMPLING AT 10967 COPPEROPOLIS ROAD, STOCKTON,
SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY
As an initial site assessment relating to the underground storage tanks at the former Countryside Market,
staff sampled six domestic water supply wells in close proximity to the Countryside Market location.
Your domestic well is approximately 200 feet northeast of the former Countryside Market site.
Your domestic well was sampled on 24 April 2001, and again on 23 May 2001. On both dates, the
holding tank was purged approximately five minutes until the pump turned on, and then a sample was
collected from a hose bib at the wellhead. A clean brass hose connector and a one-foot piece of
disposable polyethylene tubing were used to transfer the water sample from the hose bib into sample
containers provided by the laboratory. The sample containers were labeled, placed directly into a pre-
cooled ice chest with ice, and submitted to California Laboratory Services (CLS) in Rancho Cordova for
analysis. The 24 April samples were analyzed by EPA Method 8260B for volatile organic compounds,
and the 23 May samples were analyzed by EPA Method 8260B for volatile organic compounds,by EPA
Method 8015M for gasoline, and by EPA Method 200.8 for organic lead. On both sampling dates, the
sample was designated"CSM10967" for 10967 Copperopolis Road domestic well. The trip blank for
24 April was designated "TCMW-2" and the trip blank for 23 May was designated"CSM10710".
As related to you by telephone on 21 May 2001 and again on 25 May 2001, 1,2-dichloroethane
(1,2-DCA) was identified in your domestic well water sample above drinking water standards. The
analytical results of sampling are presented in the table below, and copies of the results are attached.
Analytical Results of Domestic Well Sam lin 1
Sample ID /Date Sampled 1,2-DCA 1 Gasoline 1 Lead 1
CSM10967, 4/24/01 73 Not Analyzed Not Analyzed
TCMW-2 (trip blank <0.5 Not Analyzed Not Analyzed
CSM10967, 5/23/01 55 <50 <5
CSM10710 (trip blank <0.5 Not Analyzed Not Analyzed
Notes: 1. 1,2-DCA by EPA Method 8260B, gasoline by EPA Method 8015M, and lead by
EPA Method 200.8
2. µg/1=micrograms per liter, or parts per billion
California Environmental Protection Agency
0 Recycled Paper
The energy challenge facing California is real.
