Stockton 99 Speedway
Preliminary Endangerment Assessment Workplan April 12,2007
• Final rinse using distilled water.
Decontamination procedures will be conducted using three 5-gallon buckets with their respective
wash/rinse solutions. Solutions will be replaced when they become cloudy and disposed of via transferal
into 55-gallon waste drums.
4.5 Sample Handling
4.5.1 Sample Numbering System and Label
The sample identification number, as described in section 4.2, will be recorded in the field logbook, the
sample container, and the chain-of-custody form.
4.5.2 Bottles and Preservatives
Pre-cleaned, laboratory-provided sample containers will be used. Soil samples will be retained in acetate
sleeves (for soil borings) and stainless steel tubes (for surface soil samples).
Rinsate blanks that will be analyzed for TPH and VOCs, will be collected in 1-liter amber glass bottles
and 40 ml VOA vials, respectively. Trip blanks will be provided by the laboratory and analyzed for VOCs.
4
4.5.3 Sample Chain-of-Custody Records
Chain-of-custody (COC) records will be used to document sample collection and shipment to laboratory
for analysis. Each sample shipment for laboratory analysis will be accompanied by a chain-of-custody
record. A COC will be completed and sent with the samples to each laboratory and each shipment. If
multiple coolers are sent to a laboratory on a single day, CDCs will be completed and sent with the
samples for each cooler. The chain-of-custody record will identify the contents of each shipment and
maintain the custodial integrity of the samples. Generally, a sample is considered to be in custody if it is
either in physical possession, view, locked up, or kept in a secured area restricted to authorized
personnel. Until the samples are shipped, the custody of the samples will be the responsibility of SGI.
The Site leader or designee will sign the chain-of-custody record. The Site leader or designee will sign
the 'relinquished by' box and note date and time. Corrections on a COC will be made by placing a single
line through the mistake, then initialing and dating the change. The correct information will be entered
above below, or after the mistake.
The requested analysis will be noted on the chain-of-custody form. A copy of the completed chain-of-
custody forms and manifests will be included in the PEA.
PEnw«kptan.Fml.dw 4-5 The Source Group,Inc.
f
k .
