3.0 SITE HISTORY AND LAND USE <br /> The history of the site, including previous land use, has been compiled based on information <br /> available from historical aerial photographs, historical Sanborn fire insurance maps, building <br /> permit records, and information provided to Geosystem by Bank of the West Aerial <br /> photographs spanning the period 1928 to 1949, belonging to the Fairchild <br /> Aerial Photography Collection, were reviewed in the Department of Geology at Whittier <br /> College in Whittier, California. More recent aerial photographs, spanrung the period from <br /> August 14, 1937 through 1983, were reviewed at the Surveyors Office of the San Joaquin <br /> County Public Works Department in Stockton Copies of Sanborn fire insurance maps <br /> dated 1950 and 1972 were obtained directly from Sanborn Mapping and Geographic <br /> Information Service in New York. <br /> The earliest available aerial photograph of the site area was taken in 1928 Pershing <br /> Avenue and Country Club Boulevard were visible in this photograph, as was the residential <br /> area to the east and a few scattered farm houses and buildings to the west Pershing <br /> Avenue and Country Club Boulevard appear to have been unpaved and very narrow The <br /> subject site appears to have been a fallow agricultural plot at the time <br /> A photograph taken m August 14, 1937 shows paving underway for Country Club Boulevard <br /> Also, several small orchards are visible next to some of the farm buildings on the west side <br /> of Pershing Avenue. <br /> By June 25, 1940, residential development was beginning to encroach into the agricultural <br /> areas Specifically, a residence had been constructed directly across Country Club Boulevard <br /> from the site.
