_ XXXlene
Hazards: Xylene is a skin irritant. Inhalation may result in headache,
dizziness, and Irritation to the eyes, nose, or throat. Continued exposures
to high concentrations may result in dizziness and incoordination.
• TLV: 100 ppm
• Vapor Pressure: 5.72 mm at 21' Centigrade.
- These chemical compounds are both skin contact and inhalation hazards.
Consequently, protection from both skin contact and inhalation of hazardous
chemicals must be sddressed by the Health and Safety Plan for this site.
4.1.2 Hazards Associated with Work Activities
The site investigation consists of work taxs that will be conducted on-
site. This section of the Health and Safety Plan briefly describes each work
o task and the potential chemical and physical hazards posed to workers by each
task. Sections 1.2 through 1.11 of this Plan describe the standards and
r procedures that will be implemented to mitigate tiese hazards.
7
1. Monitoring well installation. One groundwater monitoring well will
nstalled lasing a hollow stem auger. The purpose of the well will
be to establish the level, if any, of contamination in the
P - groundwater.
Hazards: Worker exposure to the identified chemicals could occur due
to inhalation of these compounds, inhalation of contaminated dust, or
skin contact with contaminated soil or water.
Drilling rigs may create hazards due to falling objects, swinging
r
"". objects and/or lines; rigs will travel or back near workers perform-
ing related work task; and noise exposures may be generated by
k hammering activities, and from equipment engines.
2. Soil and groundwater sampling. Soil samples will be collected from
borings, and groundwater samples from developed wells.
Hazards: Worker exposure to the identified chemicals could occur due;.,
is tc+ inhalation of these compounds, inhalation of contaminated dust,,'or,
skin contact with contaminated soil or water.
— — — --- . - - --42--ASSIGNMENT-OF-RESPONSIBILITIES----------------- -- --- — - --- ----- --
All personnel involved in operations who treat, excavate, trench, handle,
E sample, dispose of, or otherwise have a potential for exposure to site-
specific contaminated materials are subject to this H&S Plan.
LL;
0-3
k:ENG:9204-AppD/031191
