The reviewed document was submitted to the
EHD directive by letter dated 30 June 2010 as part of preparations for submitting a No Further
Action Request (NFAR) report.
After installation of an initial soil gas well to a depth of 6 feet below surface grade (bsg) and
testing for gas recovery, an additional four soil gas wells will be installed to the same depth, all
advanced via hand auger with a 3.4-inch bucket. Upon reaching total depth, a 1- to 2-foot PVC
screen attached to Teflon tubing will be inserted to total depth, a sand filterpack and bentonite
seal will be installed around the tubing, and a well box will be secured at the top of the well by
concrete. The soil gas well locations were proposed to screen the more sensitive onsite and
offsite structures, including a day-care center for potential vapor intrusion problems.
Soil gas samples are proposed to be collected in 1-Liter Summa Canisters following adequate
leak testing and purge volume testing. Samples will be analyzed for total petroleum
hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes
(BTEX), methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE), ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-
DCA),tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and 2-propanol by method TO-15.
The EHD approves the proposed scope of work as adequate and necessary [H&S 25296.10
(c)(3)] for preparation of an NFAR. Please submit a well permit application and appropriate fees
to the EHD and schedule the approved field work with Mike Infurna. You may contact Michael
Infurna at (209) 468-3454 if you have any questions.
Michael J. Infurna Jr., REHS Nuel C.
