bottom tube were carefully sealed with tef lon tape & plastic
' caps, and then thoroughly wrapped with duct tape. The tube was
labeled and placed on ice in a sealed chest pending transfer to
the laboratory. The remaining brass tubes, as well as the drill
cuttings, were placed in metal drums for future disposal.
' The auger flights were advanced to 10' , and the split spoon
sampler, which had been thoroughly cleaned with TSP & clean
' water, was filled with 3 clean brass tubes and placed in the
auger_ The core barrel was driven to 11' 6" with blow counts of
11-20-20. Recovery was 15" , and consisted of tan to buff colored
sandy clay. No odor or visible contamination was observed. The
' bottom tube was sealed and preserved in the same manner as the
first core, according to standard protocol.
' The well was advanced to 15' , where the core barrel was inserted
into the flights, and was driven from 15' to 16' 6" with blow
counts of 6-8-9. When the sampler barrel was opened, a slight
petroleum odor was noted. Recovery was 15" , and consisted of tan
to grey, soft, loose, clayey sand, fine to medium--grained; the
darker gray color appeared to be due to contamination. The
bottom tube was sealed and preserved as described earlier.
The well was advanced to 20' , a clean core barrel was inserted,
and the interval from 20' to 2116' was cored with blow counts of
6-9-10 . Full recovery was noted; the core consisted of soft,
clayey, very fine to fine-grained sand, gray to dark gray in
color, with an "old" (degraded gasoline, ) odor. The darker color
' noted in the core may have been due to contamination. The bottom
tube was sealed and preserved using standard protocol; the
remaining tubes were emptied into the drum used for storing drill
' cuttings.
The well was then advanced to 25' ; cuttings consisted of brown
clay and soft, moist sands, indicating penetration of the water
' table A core was taken from 25' -2616" with blow counts of
10--22-40. Recovery was 18" of gray clay grading to very soft,
loose, fine to medium-grained, gray water sand There was no
detectable odor or evidence of staining, and a sample placed in
' clean water did not produce a sheen or "rainbow" on the surface.
The bottom tube was sealed and preserved as described above.
' Prior to continuing drilling, a tape was lowered into the hole,
and indicated a water level of 23' 10" . The hole was then
advanced to 34' ; drill cuttings consisted of "water sand. " After
' verifying depth measurements, flights were pulled preparatory to
placing casing in the hole. The bottom 2 to 3' of the last auger
flight was covered with a dark bluish-black, very sticky plastic
5
