Upgradiertr Environmental Consultants
April 21, 1998
Mr. Michael Infurna, Senior RENS '' '' ` ` i ' 0
Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
San Joaquin County
P. O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Work Plan Addendum J
Kwikee Food Mart
2081 Country Club Boulevard
Stockton,CA
Dear Mr. Infurna:
On behalf of Mr. William Peters, Upgradient Environmental Consultants would like to further amend the
October 1997 work plan for investigation of contamination at 2081 Country Club Boulevard. This
request stems from the results of the recent tank removal at the site, which documented that the USTs
have been a continuing source of gasoline contamination of the underlying soil and groundwater. In view
of this new information, a more thorough investigation of the extent of soil contamination in the vicinity
of the USTs is warranted. Because the data gained from such an investigation will likely have an impact
on the location, number, and type of wells that will need to be installed to adequately assess and
remediate the groundwater contamination, it is our opinion that the soil assessment should take priority at
this time. Hence, we request that the drilling of additional monitoring wells be delayed until after we
have performed a soil assessment. If this meets with your approval, we anticipate conducting the soil
assessment and collecting a round of groundwater samples from the existing wells in mid-May and
completing the report in early June. Drilling and installation of wells could then take place during the
third quarter of 1998.
i
The attached Site Map shows the location of five proposed Geoprobe borings. The first boring will be
drilled in the southeast corner of the former UST cavity, where contaminant concentrations reached a
maximum in the recent tank removal samples. The purpose of this boring is to determine the maximum
depth of contamination. At present, we estimate drilling to approxmitely 35 feet. The depth of subsequent
borings will be determined on a case-by-case basis, but each will be drilled to a minimum of 20 feet. Soil
samples will be collected at 5-foot intervals, and we anticipate submitting a minimum of 2 samples per
boring for laboratory analysis. The samples will be analyzed for TPH-gasoline, BTEX,and five
oxygenates, and 3 samples will also be submitted for permeability, Total Organic Carbon, and bacterial
abundance. After sampling, the borings will be backfilled with cement grout to the surface.
In conjunction with this phase of drilling, we will also perform the I st quarter groundwater monitoring.
Water samples will be analyzed as in previous monitoring events.
Sincerely,
Victor B.
