1.0 INTRODUC'T'ION
Upgradient Environmental Consultants (Upgradient) is
illiam Peters to perform
site assessment and quarterly monitoring f groundwater contamination er contract o at the Kwikee Foods Mart
on Country Club Boulevard in Stockton, California. The site is included in the Local Oversight
Program of San Joaquin County Department of Health Services, Environmental Healt-. Division
(PHS/EHD), under the supervision of Michael lnfurna, RENS. in early April, 1998, Mr. Infurna
approved an amended work plan to assess the extent of soil contamination at the site. This
assessment was performed in May, 1998, and the purpose of this report is to present the. results of
the assessment and related groundwater monitoring.
2.0 BACKGROUND INFORMATION
2.2 Site Location and Description
The project site is located at 2081 Country Club Boulevard in west-central Stockton. The location
of the site is shown in Figure 1, and the site facilities are shown in Figure 2. The site is h-cated in a
residential/commercial area, and the local topography is flat. A Chevron gasoline st ation was
formerly located across Franklin Street from the site, but has been demolished and is presently
undergoing monitoring of soil and groundwater contamination resulting from activities at that site.
2.2 Previous Work
Three groundwater monitoring wells have been drilled at
the site. Upgradient has sarn,)led these
wells on several occasions since early 1995. In March, 1998, both 10,001?-gallon unlead.d storage
tanks were removed, along with the related plumbing. Holes were found in both tanks, ar d soil and
groundwater in the excavation were contaminated. Five Geoprobe borings were then drill.-d in May
1998 around the former UST cavity to delineate the extent of soil contamination. A woi k plan for
off-site investigation of the extent of groundwater contamination has been submitted and approved,
but the work has been postponed while Mr. Peters makes application for acceptance int(- the State
UST Cleanup Fund Program.
3.0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROCEDURES
Groundwater monitoring took place on January 28. Upon arrival at the site, Upgradient personnel
opened the wells and allowed them to equalize with air pressure. Approximately 15 minutes after
opening, the depth to groundwater was measured with a Solinst water level meter. The wE ter depths
are shown in Table 1 and Appendix B.
A two-stage submersible pump was then used to purge the wells of standing water, which was
deposited in a 55-gallon drum. To prevent cross-contamination, the pump was washed in a TSP
2
