Peters Kwikee Food
Preliminary Site Assessment Report
Project No.01-46.1.1 , f.
22 June 1990
. Page 2
feet. This bore hole was abandoned and instead a monitoring well was placed to the
west at the UST. On 4 April 1990, Geological Technics developed the monitoring
well and collected a water sample for laboratory analysis.
3.0 SUMMARY OF RESULTS
The geology of the site is characterized as follows. The upper 19 feet consists of dark
brown clay with a minor silt fraction. It is very plastic and compact. Between 19 and
29 feet is a gray sand, coarse grained, well sorted except for a clay matrix. At 29 feet a
green plastic clay was encountered. The boring log is given in Appendix A.
The water table stands at about 18 feet. When the well was developed, the ground
water level was measured at 17 feet 6 inches. The well was pumped with a jet pump
at 1.8 gpm and a total of 130 gallons were extracted. This water was stored on site in
?JOT approved drums.
The well was allowed to fully recharge before a sample was collected. And before a
sample was collected, a bailer blank (field blank) was collected to insure that our
sampling equipment did not introduce contamination to the sample. The sample
was tested for BTX&E -3y EPA method 602, T?H-Gasoline by -PA method 3550, and
organic lead by EPA method 7420.
The extracted water had a hydrocarbon odor to it. At the time of sampling, the
temperature was 78° F, conductivity of 1.8x103, and pH=6.99.
Laboratory analysis supported field observations and showed the hydrocarbons do
occur in the ground water. However, no organic lead was detected. Lab results are
summarized in the table below. The lab sheets are given in Appendix B.
DETECTION LIMITS ANALYTE RESULT
0.3 µg/l Benzene 2,107µg/l
0.3µg/l Toluene 2,029 gg/l
0.3 gg/1 Ethyl Benzene 1,388 µg/l
0.6 gg/l Total Xylenes 4,398 pg/1
0.5 mg/l Gasoline 81 mg/l
