The uppermost sand zone, hydrological unit 2
--40'-45' bgs, is highly impacted, as verified by soil and grab water samples
collected from "P-7". A slightly lesser impact to the third and fourth hydrological
units at —70' bgs and 95' bgs, respectively, was also documented by samples
from "P-7". Only one offsite monitoring well is located in this area, MW-7, and it
is screened he
plume continues Vto besundefdned. Monitoring of they zones. As a result, deeper lateral h
deepesandy zonesis
needed.
A work plan to install MW-12 in this area was approved by EHD on April 25,
2002, yet this well was never installed due to your failure to obtain the county
encroachment permit. The purpose of this well was to gather groundwater
samples from the deeper more permeable units down gradient of the site to
confirm the elevated levels of petroleum in soil boring "P-7" encountered during
the July-August 2001 ground water grab sampling field phase.
Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) at 18,000 ug/I, detected in
"P-7" at 40'-45' bgs, appear to support suspicions that the free product initially
detected in onsite MW-4 has migrated downward and down gradient in this
upper sand zone. The monitoring well (MW-12) proposed, approved, but
never installed in this area, should be installed immediately. If you are
unable to obtain County Public Works encroachment permission for this
installation, you should evaluate other options to ensure that this well gets
installed.
