Drill one(1)—114"diameter holes in bottom in the area of the lamination and at least
2 to 3 feet from the shell.
2. Locate hole 12"away from exisfing weld seams so that it may be patched by 12"circular patch and satisfy
API-653 weld spacing.
3. Mark the hole location on the bottom plate with 24"circle painted with fluorescent yellow paint, centered
around hole with words"HOLE"located above circle.
4. Create sketch of bottom layout that indicates location of the hole and gives dimensions with respect to the
nearest bottom plate comer.
5. Test for LELs with gas detector.
6. F11111,13=1 The SP representative shall verify that the hole has been properly located, drilled,LEL tested
and confirmed safe for welding.
7. If hole Is tasted and determined to be free of LEL,patch the hole as follows:
a. Locate all hole that has been drilled for LEL examination.
b. Prepare bottom area for patching by wire brushing plate, take care not to remove paint identifying hole
location.
c. Plug weld hole In bottom utilizing E7018 electrodes. Grind, wire brush and clean weld flush with surface
of bottom plate.
d. 0@711MMI Plug weld shall be Vacuum Box tested(VB)by the repair contractor and witnessed by a
BP representative.
e. Ftt-u 12"diameter A36 Modified patch plate so it is centered over hole.
f. SMg2&@jW BP Representative to verify patch is centered over hole.
g. Weld patch p!ate to bottom plate by means of 1l4"two pass fillet weld, utilizing E7018 or E7024
electrodes.
h. • • •• The weld final pass shall be visually inspected(VT)by a BP representative,
i, • r '• The weld final pass shall be Dye Penetrant examined(PT)by NDE contractor and
witnessed by a BP representative.
j. Patch plate fillet welds shall be tested using a vacuum box and a soap solution at a minimum negative
pressure of 3 psi and a minimum holding time of 5 seconds. The complete weld joint shall be tested.
k. • '• All welds shall be Vacuum Box tested(VB)by the repair contractor and witrressed by a
BP re resentative.
1. • • '• All completed welds shall be visually inspected(VT)by a BP representative.
8. • • '• Contractor to verify that the hole has been located and patch completely installed to cover the
hole.
g, • • •• BP Representative to check the hole layout sketch, created above,to verify that the patch is
conecti located and covering the drilled hole.
10. • • '• BP Representative to mark on Bottom Layout sketch the hole that has been patched.
Foundation Repairs
(ITEM 31 CODE 4)
1. There is no foundation seal between the external bottom edge projection and the concrete pad foundation,
which allows water to run under the tank. Apply an approved sealant to the gap between the chime and the
concrete pad.
2. Prior to application of the caulk, the bottom extension(chime)and the concrete surface shall be pressure
washed, cleaned and prepared to provide an adequate bond in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations. The bottom extension and the concrete ringwall shall be wire brush cleaned or abrasive
blasted to provide better surface preparation that will promote strong adhesion. The sealant shall be Sherwin
Williams Stampede,other approved sealant.
3. The entire perimeter of the tank shall be recaulked and sealed. The gap between the bottom extension and
the concrete surface shell be completely sealed to prevent the entry of water under the tank bottom.
4, 70r •• The completed work shall be visually Inspected by a BP representative.
Stockton, • • Package No: 1 • 1
