September 11, 1995
GROTHE
&SMITH
F C " T 7 E , . S Father William Moore
St. Bernadette's Church
1029161h Street 2544 Plymouth Road
Modesto,CA 95354-1105 Stockton, CA 95204
2091578-0636
Fax:2091578-0798
Dear Father Moore,
On September 7, 1995 1 had a telephone conversation with Mr. Jeff
Granberry of the Shell organization. I called Mr. Granberry to find out the
status of the work on the Shell service station site relative to removal of soil
contamination and how that effort might affect the expansion project for St.
Bernadette's Church.
Mr. Granberry reviewed his most current reports on the project and
informed me that there should be no reason why the expansion project
cannot go forward. According to Mr. Granberry, there apparently is no
contamination beyond the Shell service station site and there is no indication
that contamination will ever migrate north in the direction of the project. He
indicated that the underground storage tanks have already been replaced
and that the "problem has been cleaned up."
I asked Mr. Granberry for written confirmation of the information he
gave me verbally. He indicated that he was not in a position to put his
opinions in writing.
I will continue to pursue this matter with the San Joaquin County
Public Health office, but it seems that a verbal "go-ahead" is all we will be
getting from Shell. Please call me if you would like to discuss this matter
further-
Si
urther.
Since ly
James D. rothe
JDG:jb 95-08
cc: Mary Meays, San Joaquin County Public Health
