I rec'd a doc in the Stratus permit packet that calls out'mw#', screening interval'and 'drilling
method'. Update this 'form'to include casing size please and ANY CHANGES in the drilling style.
As it stands NOW, I'm only concerned with onsite MW-11 thru MW-14 and MW-20&21 and offsite
MW-17. Allan submitted a separate permit application for EACH well and that's not how you do it,
unless you want to spend $89 for 11 applications. So I condensed them to one for ONSITE and
one for OFFSITE-City of Stockton. Unfortunately, the specs got mixed up too.
MW-11, -17, and 20 are listed 'auger' but permit application seemed to call out 4"PVC in an 8"
hole.??? This combination does NOT provide adequate grout annulus. 4"PVC casings installed
by hollow stem augers need 10"augers in order to provide the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department(EHD)minimum grout annulus of 2". 1 can make changes here on the
applications to save you more submittals and changes, but I want to make sure drilling next
Tuesday with hollow stem is done 10"augers for 4"PVC or 8"augers for 2" PVC.
Sonic casings are different but also are to provide grout annulus of NLT 2". The WP addn called
out either 7"or 9"steel conductor casing(drill tube). I don't think a 7"steel sonic tube will provide
the minimum 2"grout annulus. Even if the sonic drill tube is half inch thick walled steel, a 7"tube
will measure -8"OD and is still too small for providing a 2"grout annulus. I will measure the OD of
the drill tube to ensure it will provide the minimum clearance. Remember,4"PVC casing is 4"ID.
The OD for 4" PVC is > than 4"... If quarter inch thick, that's 4.5"OD. The borehole for grouting a
4.5"OD PVC casing should be NLT 8.5"borehole. Even a 7"or 8"OD steel sonic tube will not
meet the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) regs for grouting.
Remember, I'm talking GROUT annulus. IF you want to build a well with less than 2"annulus,fine
for BELOW the grout line.As an option, some drillers have pre-drilled the grout area with the
required size then drilled the rest of the well with whatever they wanted. I'm ok with that, even
thought placing sand or worst, bentonite chips, can prove to be a 'bridging'problem later on.
YOUR CHOICE.Just update me THIS WEEK so I can get this OFF my desk and get back to other
priorities. I need all I need NLT 2pm Friday in order for you to drill Tuesday.
IF the minimum 2"grout annulus dimension is not provided for before you drill, you will NOT be
allowed to install the wells.
5/3/2007
