IAF Glass
Libbey-Owens-Ford Company
May 14, 1985
Mr . Gary Reents, Area Engineer
CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD
CENTRAL VALLEY REGION
3201 S Street
Sacramento, California 95816-7090
Dear Mr . Reents:
Enclosed is Woodward-Clyde Consultants report concerning our
Autoclave Oil Spill . At your request I am forwarding it to you
before editing corrections have been made in order to expedite
this project . However , a few comments should be made:
1 . On page one the word "rupture" is used and as you recall the
actual leak point was a hole about 1/4" in diameter .
2. Since this report was written , the leak site has been
excavated deeper and wider and the contaminated soil removed to a
pile where it is to be sampled.
3. The oil recovery system is again operational and has produced
about 300 gallons of oil since the site was reexcavated.
We await your comments on our effort to remediate this situation
and are confident that our plan to continue to remove the
floating oil will be successful .
Very truly yours,
 77
Ron Quick
Technical Services Coordinator
Enclosures
cc : + Enclosures
Mr .
