Page 2
8709 N. Davis Road
I
a
The cover letter that accompanied the report raised a concern that methyl tertiary butyl
ether (MtBE) from a neighboring site, the Circle K Store located at 8606 Thornton Road,
would be detected in a grab'water sample collected from the North Stockton Auto
Service site. This scenario is unlikely. Neither PHS/EHD nor the CVRWQCB considers
MtBE to be a potential problem at this time. MtBE has never been detected in the soil at
8709 Davis Road. Rather, the concern at the subject site is the 2,000 micrograms per
kilogram (µg/kg) perchloroethene and 2,200 gg/kg 1,1,1-trichloroethane that were
detected in the soil following the tank removal. Moreover, a file review of the Circle K y
site indicates that the groundwater gradient direction has historically been to the '
northeast, or east-northeast, which would place it cross-gradient to the subject site, not
upgradient as stated in the report. Furthermore, the Circle K site has two monitoring
wells that act as sentry wells between their contamination source area and 8709 Davis
Road. These sentry wells have had very minor or non- detections of MtBE.
If you have any questions please contact,Lori Duncan at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.G.
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Geologist, Unit IV I
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Greg Stahl, Ground Zero Analysis, Inc.
I
- f
1
i
