Roth:
This letter is in response to your request for a description
' of the cleanup and disposal process for the five underground
storage tanks lasted below:
Unit 1 - 2 , 250 gallons - empty propylene glycol
Unit 2 - 350 gallons - empty propylene glycol
Unit 3 - 100 gallons - empty propylene glycol
Unit 4 - 2 , 500 gallons - empty cooling tower water
UNat 5 - 10, 750 gallons - empty brine
It is important to note that all tanks were completely dry and
free from loose material , with the exception of Unit 5 , which
' contained glass insulation, shoring timbers and a layer of
crushed glass residue on the tank bottom. Units 1 , 4 and 5
were accessed by properly suited, confined entry crews .
' Blowers were used at all times during the cleaning process for
these units , and an LEL meter was used to monitor oxygen
content .
tInitially, supporting timbers and glass insulation were
removed from Unit 5 on 10/2 and 10/3 . Teas operation was
accomplished by crew members in safety glasses and respirators
' who scraped and cleaned the walls. Chunks of glass insulation
were passed to the outside men , who monitored the progress
inside the tank and also loaded the waste onto a flatbed
1 truck, which was properly covered prior to transport . The
volume of material removed during this phase was approximately
1250 pounds or 6 . 5 cubic yards . This non-hazardous material
was delivered to the Corral Hollow Landfill in Tracy,
' California, on 10/12 .
1
' P 0 Box 1257 • Stockton, California 95201 • Number One, Port Road 21, Port of Stockton Stockton, California 95203
(209) 463-7108 • FAX (209) 463 2712
3
