(GZA) on
your behalf for the above-referenced site. In the work plan, GZA proposes to remove
contaminant vapors from the native soil beneath and adjacent to the existing building at the
site as follows:
• Install two additional insitu air sparge (AS) wells (AS-7 and AS-8), screened twenty to
twenty-five feet below surface grade (bsg), while collecting soil samples between five
and twenty-five feet bsg for lithologic evaluation and 'to evaluate' the vadose and
smear zones;
• Install eight additional soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells (VEW-3 through VEW-10),
screened five to ten feet bsg, while collecting soil samples between five and ten feet
bsg for lithologic evaluation and 'to evaluate' the vadose zone;
• Advance three additional soil borings; although the work plan does not specifically
state the proposed total depth of the three borings, the EHD has confirmed that GZA
proposes to advance the three borings to ten feet bsg while collecting soil samples
between five and ten feet bsg for lithologic evaluation and to evaluate soil
contamination in the vadose and smear zones;
• Install the two AS wells and eight SVE wells using a hand auger, and advance the
three borings using either a hand auger or Geoprobe, all at locations illustrated on
Figure 3 of the work plan;
• Collect a five-foot soil sample at each borehole for chemical analysis of total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes
(BTEX); methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), 1,2-dichloroethae (1,2-DCA) and lead; in
addition to the five-foot soil sample, GZA proposes to collect up to two additional soil
samples from each AS well and one additional soil sample from each SVE well for
chemical analysis; and
