WNEE a <br /> rIANIFN�� <br /> I <br /> August 15, 1990 <br /> Mr. Joseph Mell <br /> 333 West Santa Clara Street: <br /> San Jose, CA 95126 <br /> PRELIMINARY SUBSURFACE ASSESSMENT <br /> 2360 East Road <br /> Grantline and East Roads <br /> Tracey, CA 95376 <br /> ' Deaf r-.--mel-j-, <br /> On July 26, 1990 \ ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY (TECO) <br /> C d a nary subsurface contamination assessment of the <br /> property located at Grantline and East roads in Tracey, California. <br /> The purpose of this phase of work was to investigate the extent of <br /> possible hydrocarbon contamination in the soils and groundwater <br /> near the underground storage tanks (UST's) on the site. The scope <br /> of work included 1. the drilling of 6 soil borings; 2. The <br /> collection of soil samplesfrom the vadose zone (the zone of <br /> saturated soils directly above the water table) ; 3. Providing for <br /> analytical laboratory results of the sampling; 4. This report of <br /> findings, conclusions, and recommendations. <br /> LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION OF SITE <br /> The site is a retail gasoline service station located in a <br /> commercialized and residential area in the east central portion of <br /> the town of Tracy, California. The property is located on the <br /> northeast corner of the intersection of Grantline and East Roads. <br /> It is paved with asphalt, except where the tanks are located; they <br /> are covered with concrete. The site contains a small maintenance <br /> garage, two product dispenser areas (pump islands), three steel <br /> underground storage tanks (UST's), and one steel waste oil UST. <br /> These tanks are located on the eastern side of the property. <br /> Adjacent properties include the Tracy Bowl and Restaurant to across <br /> East Road to the west, Snow White Drive-In (an inactive fast food <br /> restaurant) to the north, Tracy Shopping Center to east and parking <br /> areas for the shopping center to the south. Steve's Bait Shop, a <br /> video store/U-Haul business lies to the northwest of the site, <br /> immediately across the intersection of Grantline and East roads. <br /> The water supply in the area is from the city of Tracy. The <br /> closest body of surface water, the San Joaquin River, is located <br /> `- approximately 3 miles to the east. The site is underlain by medium <br /> ----------__-- -------.___---to dark.--brown,._-st.iff,-dry-cla — ------- -- <br /> y-fol-lowed--by--slight-ly-less--than--- <br /> feet of damp, plastic, gray to olive-brown clay. Groundwater is <br /> present in a sandier silty clay at approximately 8 feet below <br /> grade. Based on the surface topography a very low groundwater <br /> gradient is assumed.
