' VOW >..
2.2.3 Domestic Well Sampling and Analysis
Domestic wells DW-i located on the Holiday Harbor property and DW-2 and DW-3, located on the King Island
' property were first sampled on January 25, 1996 and then again on February 8, 1996. A faucet closest to each
well was opened and allowed to run for several minutes. Clean,laboratory-supplied glassware was then filled
from the faucet, labeled and placed in an ice-filled cooler for transport to the laboratory..
Domestic well water samples collected during the January sampling were submitted to Superior Analytical
accompanied by a completed chain-of-custody form. Water samples were analyzed for TPHg,TPHd,TPHmo,
and BTEX using EPA Method 8015-M/8020 and 5520.All samples retained by this procedure were recorded
on Chain-of-Custody Records, which accompanied the samples to the laboratory and are included as-Appendix
F.
' To further define the types of hydrocarbons encountered on the site, the water samples collected in February were
submitted to Zymax for analysis for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX),TPH C4-C40, and
naphthalene using a combination of GC/MS for EPA Method 8260 and 8270 protocol. All samples retained by
this procedure were recorded on Chain-of-Custody Records, which accompanied the samples to the laboratory
and are included as Appendix G.
' 2.3 EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION AND WASTE CONTAINMENT
To minimize the potential for cross-contamination between sampling locations, all downhole drilling equipment
and soil sampling equipment was thoroughly cleaned prior to initiating work and between each sampling location.
Downhole drilling equipment was steam cleaned between each boring location. Soil and groundwater sampling
equipment(e.g. sample tubes, split spoon sampler, and stainless steel bailer)was washed in a dilute trisodium
' phosphate solution(TSP),rinsed with potable water, and final rinsed with distilled water between each sampling
location.
Wastes generated during this investigation included soil cuttings and decontamination rinsate. Soil cuttings
generated were contained in DOT approved 55-gallon drums. All waste containers were labeled to identify
contents and date of generation.
