EI Dorado Street
Stockton CA 95202
The above referenced site is a former Shell Service Station facility located in downtown
Stockton CA. The site has undergone a remediation of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination of
soil and groundwater related to underground storage tanks formerly located on the property.
The site continues to be monitored for methyl tertiary butyl ether(MtBE) contamination in the
groundwater. The site is currently owned by the City of Stockton Redevelopment Agency, and
is referred to as the 'Weber Block".
On July 27, 2000 San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division
(PHSIEHD) was informed that the City of Stockton Redevelopment Agency has plans to begin
construction of a pedestrian plaza on the Weber Block site in September 2000. Beginning
construction plans including the excavation of the entire site to a depth of two to four-feet below
current surface grade. Before this work can proceed, all monitoring, soil vapor extraction and
recovery wells located on the site will need to be properly destroyed. Following completion of
the construction project, which is estimated to take four months, monitoring wells will have to be
reinstalled to continue monitoring trends in the contaminant plume.
Please submit to PHSIEHD a work plan for the destruction of all on-site wells, and for the
reinstallation of a series of monitoring wells that will provide continued assessment of the onsite
contaminant plume. As time is of major importance here, please submit the plan to PHSIEHD
by August 18, 2000.
