z
' Stockton Plating Inc.
Sail & Groundwater Investigation
• April 1994
Pagea - 14 -
' each borehole has not been established. There is no indication
that the green soil was the result of leaking from the former SPI
' gasoline tanks . The green soil may be natural or at may be
' stained soil due to petroleum contamination that has migrated
along the water table from another source. The green soil
' located above the groundwater table may be an indication that
groundwater has dropped over the past several years. As the
' groundwater table lowered, petroleum contaminants in the
' groundwater remained in the overlying soils . The green staining
and septic odors in the soils may indicate that hydrocarbons or
other organic materials (i.e. , marsh-like sediments) are
undergoing biological degradation.
The source of the diesel and oil contamination detected in
the soils beneath TKI-86 (reported by AEMC, dated 10/6/86) and in
' the subsequent soil investigation conducted by Condor (PIER
10/10/91) has not been established. Mr. Bob Huntley of SPI
Ireported that a small above-ground diesel tank was located near
the former location of the SPI gasoline tanks; however, no
evidence of diesel contamination was detected beneath the above-
ground tank when the tank was removed from the site. AEMC
reported encountering rubble fill material during the removal of
ITK1-86 . A large abandoned linen cleaning facility, located
approximately 75 yards to the east of the SPI site, has a history
of environmental investigation associated with leaking
I
ov
I CONDOR
