«f.
3
SIVE HISTORY
The site was constructed as a service station by Regal Petroleum
Corporation ill 1950. Prior to that the Wheeler family residence
had been located there since the turn of the century. In July .
1981, Wickland Properties took control of the site and leased it
from the Wheeler family.
Wickland Properties, subcontracted Town & Country Contractors to
perform the underground storage tank and product line removal in
accordance to the. County Health guidelines. On September 26,
1989, Western Geo-Engineers (WEGE) monitored the site with a
LEL/02 meter and a PID meter for health and safety purposes and
obtained the required samples of the tank and product line
excavations.
Five 10,000 gallon single galled carbon steel underground storage
tanks wei, removed by Town and Country Contractors on September 26
and 27. 1989., two regular gasoline, two unleaded gasoline and one
super unlcraduid gasoline. The bottom of the fillup end of tank 4
appeared to have failed, (corrosion with possible pin hole) ,
sample T4A.
Soil sampling of the tank excavation done on September 29, 1989,
and the product line trenches done on October 5, 19891, revealed
that the soil is contaminated with gasoline, kerosene and fuel oil
range hydrocarbons (aged-degraded gasoline) , see Table 1.
A work plan was submitted and revised on November 13, 1989, and
the assessment o€ the site started. During this time, six ground
water monitoring wells were installed, the pump dispenser area was
demolished, the tank field excavation and pump dispenser areas
were overexcavated, the excavated soil aerated and the excavations
backfilled with 1/4" rounded pea gravel to the 12 foot depth and
then compact •'i backfilled with the aerated clean native soil to
surface. Aft
.r completion of backfilling the excavations three
vapor recovery wells
sFwere installed 3A, 3B i 3C.the overexcavated areas
(PI, P3 and EX) , see
Ground water monitoring/sampling have taken place on December 1,
1969, January 12, 1990, August 24, 1990 and November 21, 1990, the
next scheduled ground water monitoring/sampling is to take place
- _-
in March 1991, see Figure 4. As mentioned above in the
Introductiona vapor-extraction-pilot-test-has-.been-completed, see
WEGE report ."Pilot Test for vapor extraction, former, Regal Station
504", dated January 17, 1991
page 3
