Peter Voskes
Page 2
In October, 1990, 5 soil borings were drilled and soil samples were
collected to further investigate the extent of contamination from
the former underground storage tank. Mr. Hunter used 60 feet as
the distance from surface to groundwater when he completed the
Environmental Fate Worksheets from the LUFT Manual. The distance
used should have been 45 feet. Boring #1 soil sample results
evidenced benzene at . 024 ppm at 25 feet below ground surface.
Boring #2 soil sample results evidenced benzene at .405 ppm at 30
feet below ground surface boring #5 (located on Hammerstown
property) soil sample results evidenced benzene at . 068 ppm at 25
feet below ground surface. These levels exceed the amount of
contamination that can be left in place without further
investigation. A copy of these worksheets are enclosed.
Based upon information in Hunter's report, it appears that the
majority of the contaminated soil is located on Normac property but
an undetermined amount exists off-site to the west on property
owned by Hammertown Partners. Further investigation of the extent
of contamination is required on-site and off-site which may include
a groundwater investigation.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, contact
Harlin Knoll, RENS, at (209) 468-3442 .
Jogi Kh , M.D. , P.H.
Healt icer
L rie A.Co lla, RENS, Program Manager
vironmental Health Division
LAC/HK:nr
c: Hammertown Partners
11 S.
