Four monitoring wells MWl to MW4 have been installed at the above-referenced site in <br /> 2004. Elevated concentrations of methyl text but yl ether (AME) and aromatic hydrocarbons have <br /> been detected during the last three quarters of sampling. The highest concentration of MTBE was <br /> detected at 45,000 micrograms per liter (ug/1) in grab water samples collected from soil boring B4 at <br /> 40 feet below surface grade (bsg), and the highest concentration of MTBE in monitoring well <br /> groundwater samples was 14,000 ug/1 from M\\'2. M%V-2 groundwater sample results were 1 ,100 <br /> ug/l of benzene in March 2004, MW-3 sample results were 6,300 ug/1 of benzene in March 2004, <br /> and MW-4 sample results were 1,200 ug/I of benzene in June 2004. <br /> According to Guidelines forinvestigation and Cleanup ofMTBE and Other Ether-Based Oxygenates published <br /> by State Water Resources Control Board, the above-referenced site is a candidate for interim <br /> remedial action for source area remediation within one year of discovery of the MTBE release. <br /> EHD recommends timely implementation of interim remedial action using technologies such as soil <br /> vapor extraction and air sparging on sites with MTBE and aromatic hydrocarbons contamination to <br /> reduce the rate of contaminants entering into a dissolved phase and migrating in groundwater, and <br /> reduce the concentration of the dissolved contaminants in groundwater.
