15 June 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 03 - 1070
i
3 .2. WELL INSTALLATION
AGE proposes to advance and sample one pilot soil boring for installation and completion of a
ground water extraction well (EW- 1), utilizing a CME-75HT drill rig equipped with 10-inch hollow
stem augers. The pilot boring will be advanced to approximately 55 feet bsg; the total depth of the
well boring may vary according to hydrogeologic/geologic conditions encountered during drilling.
AGE proposes to install the extraction well adjacent to boring B4 (Figure 2) :
Selected soil samples will be analyzed by a State of California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015M;
• Benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (BTEX) in accordance with EPA Method
8260B; and
• Fuel additives, including tertiary butanol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tert-butyl
ether (ETBE), tert-amyl methyl ether (TAME), MTBE, 1 ,2-DCA and 1 ,2-dibromoethane
(EDB) in accordance with EPA Method 8260B.
Laboratory reports for the soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody (COC) documentation will be presented in a report
with findings and recommendations. Soil sampling procedures are described in Section 4. 1 .
3 . 3 . DEVELOPMENT AND SURVEY
Following well installation, each well will be developed to maximize water flow and minimize the
amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping or bailing. Each well will also
be surveyed by a state licensed surveyor. Procedures for well installation, development and surveying
are presented in Sections 4.2. and 4. 3 . .
3 .4. GROUNDWATER EXTRACTION (AQUIFER PUMPING) TEST
AGE proposes to utilize the newly-installed extraction well EW- 1 to perform an 8-hour step
draw-down pumping test and a 24-hour aquifer constant rate pumping test at the site to : 1 ) evaluate
the general zones of capture (radii of influence) achievable during groundwater extraction at the site,
2) obtain general aquifer characteristics such as hydraulic conductivity, storativity, transmissivity,
and draw-down at a constant pumping rate, and 3) evaluate the feasibility of ground water extraction
Advanced GeoEnvironmental, Inc.
