E1Dorado <br /> Stockton, CA 95206 <br /> San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) <br /> has reviewed the Report oflnvestigation dated February 3 , 2000 prepared by <br /> Environeering, Inc. , for the above referenced site. The Report evidences soil and <br /> groundwater contamination at this site. Further investigation will be necessary to <br /> determine the lateral and vertical extent of the contamination, <br /> The Report states that the groundwater gradient at the site has not been determined due to <br /> the interference of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as motor oil (TPHmo) in Monitoring <br /> Well (MW) 1 . Groundwater gradient must be determined at this site and monitored <br /> quarterly. The Work Plan dated January 28, 1999 prepared by Environeering stated that <br /> MW 1 would be pumped until the groundwater was clear and a water sample could be <br /> collected. TPHmo should be removed frequently from MWl and quantified prior to <br /> appropriate disposal. The amount of TPHmo removed from the groundwater should be <br /> reported to PHS/EHD as part of the site remediation activity. If it is not possible to <br /> utilize MWl as a repeatable groundwater sampling point by the next sampling event, an <br /> additional MW should be installed for calculating the groundwater gradient at the site, <br /> PHS/EHD reviewed the Report of Investigation dated February 4, 1997 prepared by <br /> Sierra-Pacific Groundwater Consultants, Inc ., for the above referenced site, which states <br /> that investigative borings were constructed in the area of MW2 in November 1996 . The <br /> boring for MW2 evidenced TPHmo at 15000 parts per million in soil collected 30 feet <br /> below surface grade. This was the deepest soil sample analyzed in this area. TPHmo <br /> contamination at the site has not been vertically defined in the soil or laterally defined in <br /> the soil and groundwater. <br /> Soil samples collected from the borings for MWl and MW3 evidence Toluene, <br /> Ethylbenzene and Xylene contamination. Diesel contamination was evidenced in the <br /> groundwater collected from MWs 1 and 3 during the first Quarterly Monitoring (QM) <br /> event. Groundwater samples collected from MW 1 additionally evidenced Ethylbenzene <br /> and Xylene contamination. PHS/EHD recommends the installation of additional borings <br /> and MWs to determine the lateral and vertical extent of contamination at this site. <br /> A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services <br />
