4.2 Waste Oil USTs
Analysis of MW-2 sampled on 21 November 2000 shows increased contamination from motor
oil and gasoline No diesel contamination was present in the 21 November 2000 sampling of
MW-2 The former waste oil USTs continue to be an apparent source of groundwater
contammation from a number of petroleum hydrocarbons
4.3 Diesel USTs
MW-1 (site of the former diesel USTs) continues to show contammation from diesel, ethyl
benzene and total xylenes The contarrunation levels are decreasing significantly, as shown in
• Figure 5
MW-2 is now free of diesel contamination, and MW-3 shows no contamination from any
targeted hydrocarbons At this time, it appears that contamination from diesel is generally
confined to the location of the former diesel USTs, and does not pose a significant threat to
groundwater downstream
4.4 Floating Oil
. A September 1998 sample of groundwater monitoring well MW-2 found black, floating oil that
r appeared to be typical of used motor oil Floating oil has been removed from MW-2 using
! disposable bailers periodically throughout the year Approximately 8 25 gallons of floating oil
S has been removed through 21 November 2000
4.5 Groundwater Flow
• Groundwater flow direction is southeasterly It appears to turn easterly near the south and east
. property boundaries (Figure 3)
• The flow gradient is substantially higher than previous estimate, with the inclusion of MW-4
Figure 4 shows groundwater elevations at various dates during 1999 and 2000 Elevations
fluctuate over very significant ranges (3 and 4 feet in 3 to 4 months), which will affect
contamination levels, flow direction, etc It should be noted that the groundwater elevation for
i MW-2 in November 2000 is suppressed due to the effect of excess floating oil, which interfered
30
ID
Environeenng,Inc Project No 01-00109 Page 9
