Precautions will be taken at all times . Soil samples will be taken by Geo Analytical Laboratories , Inc. , Modesto, CA. The method of sampling will be soil excavation by backhoe . Samples will be taken by hand with brass tube from backhoe bucket. Samples will be taken two (2) feet to four (4) feet by hand using brass tube. All of the above procedures will be done according to code. After the soil samples have been taken, the owner will backtill the excavated hole. Western i?,leter Service will hold shop meetings before start of tank removals to discuss safety procedures . The "buddy system" will be discussed and the course of action to be taken should an injury occur to an employee. Some of many rules to be discussed to help prevent injury or accident are: 1) avoid standing on top of the tank--surface may be slippery or rusty, 2) check for falling objects , slipping, and tripping hazards , 3) visqueen sheeting will be used if necessary around excavated soil. , 4) where necessary , the site will be secured with construction barricades and warning signs posted to prevent the exposure of unauthorized, unprotected people to site hazards , 5 ) limit exposure time to noisy equipment. 6) keep a safe distance from the excavation and heavy equipment , 7) stay up-wind trorn the- tank hetank and/or excavation to avoid unnecessary exposure whenever possible, 8) limit exposure by minimizing the exposure time and maximizing the distance to the source of vapor release , 9) avoid the area or take special action when ventilating the tank with water , dry ice or air , 10) do not enter the excavation without first monitoring the air. Western Meter Service shall provide Public Health Service/Environment Health Division a map of the nearest hospital and route to be taken should an injury occur. A copy of the map will also be on the job site with permits .
