Groundwater monitoring and sampling,and preparation
of this report was performed pursuant to Section 2652(d)of the Underground Storage Tank Regulations
(California Code of Regulations,Title 23,Subchapter 16),and as requested in the May 20, 1991 letter from
Public Health Services(PHS)to Mr,Dean Willis of O'Melveney and Myers. In accordance with the May 20,
1991 letter,this report presents:
s Status of Site Investigation and Cleanup Activities
s Groundwater Monitoring Data
e Groundwater Quality Data
f Site Investigation nd Cleanup Activities
Since the discovery of the petroleum hydrocarbon contamination at the Manna Pro site,a site Investigation
has been performed to delineate the extent of the impact to soil and groundwater. The impact apparrently
Is the result of loss of product from five underground storage tanks and associated piping that were
removed in June 1990. Soil from the removal of the tanks and further excavation of the pit to define the
limits of the impacted soil has been stockpiled on the site pending evaluation of treatment options.
Currently the tank pit excavation remains open, and the excavated soil has been segregated into stockpiles
of clean and Impacted soil. Although presently Linder evaluation, stockpiled soil will likely be addressed by
sampling It further and backfilling the pit with soil that meets certain agreed upon standards. The remainder
of the stockpiled soil not meeting those standards will then be treated via on-site uncontrolled aeration.
The extent of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil and groundwater has been evaluated In Soil an
Qroundwater investigation at Manna Pro. Inc.Facility, dated December 1990,prepared by ERM-West,Inc..
Additional groundwater monitoring wells may be required to establish plume perimeter monitoring points.
In our letter to PHS dated August 28, 1991,the overall remedial strategy for in place soil and groundwater
was outlined. Soil treatment will likely involve in-situ soil venting. Groundwater remedlation will involve
-- -----.--------groundwater extraction tomaintain hydraulic-control-of_the-plume._-_ ____
Ilffi,.•.e Ihmuuhhnrrf 111;1'.,ti.,Currant dud Ur•n,n "``
