KLEINFELDER
November 24, 1992 "'IVED
File: 24-220165-D00 [E
Nov 3 0 1992
Ms. Mary Meays ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
County of San Joaquin PERMIT/SERVICES
Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
P.O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Request For Closure
Former Mayfair Shell (Site Code 9270)
6009 North El Dorado
Stockton, California 95207
Dear Ms. Meays:
Based on the analytical results of samples collected from the Mayfair site, Kleinfelder is
requesting closure of the former Mayfair Shell site (9270). A total of 14 samples were
collected during two rounds of sampling at the site. With the exception of total lead detected
in one of the samples, the results of the first round (eight samples) were generally non-detect
to just above detection limits. As a representative of your Division was not on site during the
sampling, a second set of six samples was collected. The second set of samples (which
included a repeat of the location which reported elevated lead concentrations during the first
round) also were non-detect to just above detection limits. Based on these results, Kleinfelder
is requesting closure of the site such that, upon approval of the excavation and grading permit,
the excavation may be backfilled. Once site closure is granted, the stockpiled soil will be
transported to Forward Landfill in Stockton for disposal.
Field Activities
Based on the analytical results reported in Kleinfelder's March 20, 1992 report for this site and
the protocol outlined in Kleinfelder's remedial work plan to San Joaquin County,
approximately 100 cubic yards of soil were excavated from the site and the remaining piping
was removed. After excavation of the soil, six soil samples were collected from the
excavation and two samples were collected from beneath piping locations on September 9,
1992. The sample locations are shown on the attached Plate. The soil samples were collected
from the backhoe bucket in 6-inch brass tubes. Each tube was sealed with Teflon sheeting and
plastic caps, labeled, logged on a chain-of-custody, and stored in an iced cooler for transport
to Superior Analytical Laboratories (Superior).
Because a representative of San Joaquin County was not present to direct the verification
sampling, a second set of verification samples was collected on October 22, 1992 (Attached
Plate). The sample locations were designated by Ms. Mary Meays of the San Joaquin County
Department of Public Health Services, Environmental Health Department. The samples were
collected under Ms. Meays supervision using the protocol described above. The six samples
were transported under chain-of-custody control to Superior.
FFcRn,8--92¢¢-hh219 Page 1 of 3 24-220165-D00
KLEIf OW' 1 $ I lee ece, acamento, CA 95827 (916) 366-1701
