App/iea° GeoSystems 4191 -E Power Inn Road, Sacramento, CA 95826 (916) 452-2901
• FREMONT • IRVINE • HOUSTON • BOSTON • SACRAMENTO • CULVER CITY • SAN JOSE
June 4, 1991
0531minf
AGS 30003-1
Mr. Mike Infurna
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
N, QEnvironmental Health Division %
P.O. Box 2009 k11111 ; :/ `
Stockton, CA 95201
Subject: Telephone Conversation Regarding Work Plan for a Soil Investigation and
Vapor-Extraction Test at ARCO Service Station No. 2130, 7609 North El
Dorado Street, Stockton, California.
Mr. Infurna:
Applied GeoSystems, Inc./RESNA Industries (Applied GeoSystems) is writing to confirm
details of our telephone conversation of May 30, 1991, regarding the subject site. We
discussed three main points: ( 1) the location of vapor-extraction wells, (2) installation of
conductor casing between the new gasoline tanks, and (3) the location of a second cavity
and sampling before backfilling.
Vapor extraction wells will be installed in soil borings drilled near the existing gasoline tank
cavity instead of north of the station building as previously planned. The screened interval
of the well closest to the fill port of the existing tanks will extend from approximately 12 to
22 feet below grade. The screened interval in the remaining vapor-extraction wells drilled
near the tank cavity will extend from approximately 15 to 25 feet below grade. If the
borings extend deeper thai, the well depths, the borings will be backfilled with a berltonite-
cement slurry to the appropriate depth before installing the well.
If results of laboratory analyses indicate soil samples collected from the base of the tank
cavity excavation contain hydrocarbons in concentrations that warrant remediation, a
maximum of six conductor casings, two between each tank, will be installed from the base
of the tanks to the ground surface. Twelve-inch-diameter polyvinyl chloride pipe will be
used for conductor casing. The conductor casing will be driven approximately 2 feet into
native soil and then surrounded by clean pea gravel backfill.
