DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
The following sections discuss the groundwater characteristics and quality.
4.1 GROUNDWATER FLOW DIRECTION AND GRADIENT
' The depths to groundwater and groundwater elevations for each water level monitoring
location are detailed on the attached Table 1. Historical groundwater depth and
elevation data from 2001 — 2009 has been archived and can be viewed on previous
reports. The groundwater gradients were calculated using 3-point mathematical
calculations.
In the First Quarter 2012, the groundwater gradient in the Louise Avenue Area was
towards the west, with a gradient of 0.008 ft/ft. A groundwater contour map for the
Louise Avenue Application Area is presented on Plate 4.
' The groundwater in the Plant Area during the First Quarter 2012 monitoring event was
' calculated to flow to the south, with a gradient of 0.005 ft/ft. Historically, the
groundwater flow direction has ranged from northeast to southeast. A groundwater
contour map for the Plant area is included as Plate 3.
Groundwater flow direction in the McKinley Avenue area was estimated to be towards
' the west based on relative elevations of groundwater in W-1, W-4, and W-5. A
groundwater gradient was not calculated due to the new linear orientation of the wells.
4.2 CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF GROUNDWATER SAMPLES
4.2.1 McKinley Avenue Rapid Infiltration Area
Groundwater quality for the three monitoring wells in the Rapid Infiltration Area for the
First Quarter 2012 had the following ranges of concentrations:
• pH (7.18 to 7.35 units)
101486.5/ST012R0385 Page 9 of 14 April 30, 2012
Copyright 2012 Kleinfelder
