DER
the
the depth to groundwater in the vicinity of the Site has been 12 to 20 feet, and the groundwater
flow direction has been noted as west to northwest.
Groundwater depth and flow direction may be influenced by local pumping, rainfall, and
irrigation patterns. With the nearby groundwater extraction at Sharpe Army Depot, local
irrigation, well pumping and recharge at CNP and other nearby properties, groundwater flow
beneath CNP has shown varying flow directions often differing from the 'regional' flow
directions as noted above.
' According to a file review of Sharpe Army Depot records on file with the California State
Department of Toxic Substances Control, Sharpe has eight extraction wells for withdrawal of
the shallow (A-Zone) water within approximately 1200 feet of the northeast corner of the CNP
plant. Those wells are EWA1, EWA3, EWA5, EWA6, EWA7, EWA8, EWA9, and EWA10.
Extraction of groundwater is likely impacting shallow groundwater flow, and further may be
responsible for the variance between the flow directions summarized in Text Table 1 and
' historical groundwater flow directions noted at the CNP facility (Appendices, Table 2).
1
101486.7/SAC14R02453 Page 5 of 14 July 25, 2014
©2014 Kleinfelder
