WATER:
Dissolved benzene in monitor wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-6, and Mid-8
substantially exceeded the action level for drinking water of 1.0
ppb, set by tha DHS, during the May quarterly sampling. Monitor
well MW-4 and MW-9 contain considereably lower benzene values but
are still above the action level while monitor wells MW-5 and MW-7
were below re;iorting limits for benzene. Monitor wells MW-3 and
MW-10 were nOt sampled during this quarter because of gasoline
product observed floating on top of the water and the presence of
abundant gasoline sheen in these two wells respectively. EDB
concentrations were below reporting limits for all wells sampled
(HW-Z, MW-9, MW-4, MW-5, MW-6, HW-7, MW-8, and MW-9) .
During the August quarterly sampling, dissolved benzene
concentrations increased in monitor wells MW-2, HW-6, MW-7, and
MW-8 from the prior quarterly sampling. These benzene levels are
above the action levels, however, benzene concentrations have
significantly decreased in monitor wells MW-4 and MW-9. Monitor
well MW-5 remained the same with below reporting limits for
benzene in water. Water samples were not collected because of
measurable gasoline product in monitor wells Mg-1 (1.261) and MW-3
(1.661 ) along with observable gasoline sheen in monitor well Mw-
10. No water sample was obtainable from monitor well MW-2 due to
depletion of the water during the "purging" process and subsquent
Slow recovery. EDB concentrations for water samples collected
were once again below reporting limits. This analysis will not be
carried on for the next sampling. Complete water results are
presented in TABLE 1 of this report.
3.3 CoNmus1oN5
1. Based upon the results of our subsurface investigations,
! significant ground water contamination exists in monitor
wells Mw-1
, MW-2, MW-3, MW-6, MW-8, MW-9, and MW-10.
2• The ground water flow direction is to the east.
3. Measurable gasoline product has been recovered from
monitor wells Mw-1 and MW-3.
4. No soil contamination exists in monitor wells MW-1 thru
HW-8 from the surface down to 65 feet below the surface.
_ i
5. Minor soil contamination exists in monitor well MW-9 at
30 and 45 feet below the surface but is contaminant free
from 5o feet to 65 feet below the surface.
6. Significant soil contamination exists in monitor well
MW-10 from 40 feet. to 50 feet below the surface.
J5
