I
January 5 , 1991
Mr. John Margowska
Environmental Director
Wickland Properties
1765 Challenge Way
Sacramento, CA 95815
(916 ) 921-1100
RE: Source Test for vapor extraction, former Regal Station 603
(EXXON) , 6425 Pacific Avenue, Stockton, California.
Dear Mr . Margowski:
INTRODUCTION
This letter documents the scheduled start up of the source test
for vapor extraction into activated charcoal at the above
mentioned site.
PILOT TEST
Gasoline range hydrocarbons are known to exist beneath the
undergound storage tanks area. The tank excavation was
overexcavated to the 26 foot depth. On January 3, 1991 ,
activated charcoal in two 85 gallon tub scrubs were delivered to
the site, and on December 27-28 , 1990, monitor well MW1O was
manifolded to the treatment area. The blower will be installed on
January 7 , 1991 , at which time the test will begin.
TEST PROCEDURES
The test will proceed for a duration of one week or until break
through, which ever occurs first. Vapor extraction wells EX1 , EX2
and MW10 will be connected to a vacuum system (1HP Rotron Blower)
that exhausts into two 85 gallon activated charcoal tub s^r::.ti2W-
Sample ports will be installed at each well to obtain samples ,
vacuum and temperature readings , at the influent of the blower for
samples, vacuum and temperature monitoring and at the exhaust of
the blower for pressure and temperature monitoring. A sample port
will also be located on the exhaust of the charcoal zub scrubs ivi
samples , pressure and temperature readings . The exhaust of the
tub scrubs will be checked on alternate days for breakthrough
using a hand held photoionxzing detector (PID) that has been
calibrated to 50 ppm Isobutylene in air. Once breakthrough occurs
