These two monitoring wells typically contained the highest
concentrations of dissolved petroleum. MW-3R and MW-9R replaced these two
wells after the soil removal activities were completed and now ground water
samples for these wells are reporting significantly lower levels of petroleum, with
only benzene at 72 ug/I exceeding the maximum contaminant level (MCL).
Down gradient MW-2 currently contains the highest total petroleum hydrocarbons
as gasoline (TPHg) at 1,900 ug/I and benzene at 0.67 ug/I. With remaining
MW-6 reporting the only other contamination, TPHg at 800 ug/I, the excavation
and removal of the large percentage of the petroleum soils appears to have been
effective at reducing the petroleum concentrations in the ground water.
The site is approaching the time when a no further action required (NFAR)
recommendation could be made. In anticipation of this, please prepare by
reinstating laboratory analyses for 1,2-DCA and EDB (EPA Method 8260B) in the
next quarterly monitoring and sampling event. At least two consecutive quarterly
events with a complete suite of LUFT analytes are required prior to sites being
qualified to be evaluated for no further action.
