i <br /> NORCALCOONSULTANTS INC <br /> • <br /> February 2, 2001 <br /> Christopher Palmer <br /> Wright Environmental Services, Inc <br /> 67 E 10" Street <br /> Tracy, CA 95376 <br /> Dear Mr Palmer- <br /> This <br /> almerThis letter presents the finaings of a geophysical Investigation performed by NORCAL <br /> Geophysical Consultants, Inc atthe property formerly occupied by Ed's Muffler, 595 E 111"Street, <br /> Tracy, California The survey was conducted for Wright Environmental Services on January 16, <br /> 2001 by Geophysicist, Dan ❑ Jores Christopher Palmer provided site orientation and logistical <br /> _-support <br /> SITE DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE <br /> The site was previously occupied by Ed's Muffler shop, and is currently being used as a used car <br /> sales lot as well as access to, and parking for, a trailer park The limits of our investigation area <br /> as designated by Wright Environmental Services, and taking into account instrumental access, <br /> are shown on Plate 1 This area extends north/south from the northern edge of the overhead <br /> • canopy in front of Mr Ed's Muffler building to aporoximately 75 feet north of the former welding <br /> building It extends east/west from the eastern property fences to approximately 5 feet east of the <br /> trailers in the north portion and to the sidewalk surrounding the former muffler shop in the southern <br /> portion It also includes some portions of the orooerty surrounc ing the southernmost trailer and <br /> areas behind the muffler building Notable site features in the vicinity of the survey area include <br /> the railroad located east of the property trending north/south, multiple vent pipes along the north <br /> wail of the muffler building, a chain carricade toward the southern end of the survey area, a <br /> carport in the northeast comer of the survey area, and several monitoring wells The site was <br /> cleared of vehicles upon our arrival at the site, except for those areas noted on Plate 1 <br /> Information proviaed by Wright Envirormental Services indicates that a large irrigation pipeline <br /> trends north/south through the survey area, possioly undercutting the western half of the welding <br /> building <br /> Additional information providea by Wright Environmental Services indicates that multiple <br /> underground storage tanks were removed from the property However, there is reason to believe <br /> that additional UST's may still exist Tnerefore, the purpose of the survey is to acquire subsurface <br /> information that will aid in assessing whether additional UST's may still be present, as well as any <br /> other possible subsurface features that may represent potential contaminant sources <br /> GEOPHYSICAL APPROACH <br /> Based on site access and site conditions, we performed the investigation using two different <br /> geophysical methods electromagnetic line locating (EMLL) and grouna penetrating radar(GPR) <br /> • The EMLL method consists of using a specializes metal detector and a pipe and cable locator to <br /> locate near surface buried metallic objects such as underground utilities and USTs The ground <br /> penetrating radar method is used to locate born metallic and non-metallic boned objects Detailed <br /> descriptions of the geophysical methodology and instrumentation can be found in Appendix A <br /> 1350 INDUSTRIAL AVENUE SUITE A•PETALUMA CA 94952 -TELEPHONE (707) 763-1312 -FAX {707) 762-5587 <br /> SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TELEPHONE (774) 708-7727-FAX (714) 708-7720 <br />
