Burick
350 Via Concha
Aptos, CA 95003
RE: Well Abandonnient/Closure Report
BC&D Properties, 1129 W. 11 Street, Tracy, CA
Dear Mr. Burick:
On behalf of Mr. Robert J. Burick, agent for BC&D Properties, Geological Technics Inc. (GTI)
transmits the following summary of activities performed on December 2, 1997, to facilitate Mr.
Burick's obligation for closure of the gasoline tank remedial action project at 1129 W. Eleventh
St.,Tracy, CA.
Monitoring Well Abandonment
• In the morning of December 2, 1997 GTI personnel, along with V&W Drilling (C57#
720904), mobilized to the site and monitoring wells,MW-1,2, 3, and 4 were abandoned.
• The grout installation included pressure installing grout using a slurry pump and tremie pipe
until a mushroom over the top of casing had been formed(Figure 2).
• Neat cement grout(Type I/II Portland with about 4%bentonite), was used to close the wells.
• In completing the grouting of the casing, grout volumes were tracked in order to see how
measured volumes compared to estimated volumes, volumes were measured to the nearest 5
gallons in the field so there is some error. Both the theoretical and actual volume data is
included in Table 1. In all cases the installed volume exceeded the estimated casing volume.
The discrepancy may be due in part to grout moving out into the filter pack material, error in
the measurement of installed grout volumes.
• Except for MW-4, the well boxes were removed as follows: the concrete collars were broken
out with a sledge hammer, well boxes removed, the soil around the former well box drilled to
four feet below grade, the casings and conductor casing(if installed) were cut.
• Since MW4 is located in the sidewalk, the well box was not removed. The well box lid was
removed, the well pressure grouted, and the well box filled with concrete flush with the
sidewalk.
