AmLj HORIZdN ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
Specialists in Site Assessment,Remedial Testing,Design and Operation
February 10, 1998
Mr. Jeffrey Wong
Ms. Margaret Lagorio
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
304 East Weber Avenue, Third Floor
Stockton, California 95202
Subject: Addendum to Work Plan
Former Discovery Chevrolet
1615 11th Street, Tracy, California.
Ms. Lagorio:
At the request of our client, Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon) has prepared this letter
Addendum to the Work Plan for the above-referenced site. This addendum was required
by the San Joaquin County Public Health Service / Environmental Health Division
(SJCPHS/EHD) in a letter dated February 6, 1998 that comments on Horizon's Work
Plan for Additional Subsurface Investi ation at the above-referenced site (Horizon,
January 27, 1998).
As required in the SJCPHS/EHD letter, the following modifications to the Work Plan are
numbered as in the SJCPHS/EHD letter and discussed below:
1) Label all proposed soil borings and h dro unches. Since the locations of soil
borings or GeoProbes may change based upon actual field conditions, such as
underground utilities, restrictions for accessibility, or unknown contaminant
levels, these locations are generally not labelled until located out in the field at the
time of drilling. This eliminates any confusion that renumbering in the field can
generate.
2) Include analysis of oxygenates from all water samples using EPA Method 8260.
Task 4 of the proposed work will be modified to include analysis for the
oxygenated fuel additive compounds methanol, ethanol, tertiary butanol, MTBE,
di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary butyl ether (ETBE), and tertiary amyl
methyl ether (TAME) to confirm their non-existence in the groundwater beneath
the site. Previous analysis of groundwater samples collected during 1997
quarterly monitoring episodes have indicated that the above oxygenated fuel
additive compounds are not present in the groundwater beneath the site.
3) A borin2 through the former dispenser [location] and determine vertical definition
below groundwater. The proposed boring location that had been situated
5011 Golden Foothill Parkway,Suite 7 • EI Dorado Hills,CA 95762 • (916)939-2170 • FAX(916)939-2172
PO.Box 5283 • Bakersfield,CA 93388 9 (805)589-8389 • FAX(805)589-1456
