HORIZbN ENVIRONMENVAL INC• `
r43eration
Specialists in Site Assessment,RemedicItTesting D2s
°5 Nov Aid 11 51
November 15, 1995
Ms. Diane Hinson
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
304 East Weber Street, Third Floor
P.O. Box 388
Stockton, California 95201
Subject: Executive Summary of Workman
Former Discovery Chevrolet, 1615 11th Street, Tracy, California.
Ms. Hinson:
This letter summarizes the work to be performed as interim soil remediation associated with the
former gasoline underground storage tanks (UST) at the above-referenced site. Approximate
location of the former USTs is shown on the attached Site Plan. This work is described in the
Workplan dated October 25, 1995 and approved during a meeting between Ms. Michelle Nokes
of Winner Ford, Mr. Gary Barker of Horizon Environmental Inc. (Horizon), and Ms. Diane
Hinson of the San Joaquin County Public Health Services (SJCPHS) on November 7, 1995.
The interim soil remediation is in response to the discovery of gasoline hydrocarbons in soil
when the two gasoline USTs were removed. The purpose is to remove hydrocarbon bearing soil
which may be a source of hydrocarbons into the groundwater. Soil samples collected at the base
of the UST excavation after removal were analyzed and found to contain total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPHg)at concentrations ranging from 920 to 4,400 parts per million
(ppm).
To complete interim soil remediation the following scope of work will be performed;
• Obtain permits, prepare a site safety plan, notify Underground Service Alert and schedule
contractors.
• Excavate approximately 400 cubic yards of soil form the former gasoline UST cavity.
The excavation will be approximately 11 feet deep by 25 feet wide by 35 feet long.
During excavation, the soil will be sampled and screened with an Organic Vapor Meter
(OVM) to evaluate hydrocarbon concentrations in the soil. If the OVM screening
indicates that the excavation has reached the lateral limits of hydrocarbon impact, a soil
sample will be collected and transported to an onsite mobile laboratory for analyses. Soil
samples will be analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPHg) and
benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes.
5011 Golden Foothill Parkway,Suite 7 • EI Dorado Hills,CA 95762 • (916)939-2170 • FAX(916)939-2172
P.O.
