- i
t
Former Discovery Chevrolet October 25, 1995 r
Tracy,California Work Plan
f
Task 1 Obtain permits, prepare a site safety plan, notify Underground Service Alert,
and schedule contractors. i
Task 2 Excavate the gasoline-impacted soil from the former UST cavity. This work
must be completed on a weekend, due to the location of the UST cavity in the
service bays, and will involve removal of asphalt covering the excavation area.
Every effort will be made to keep the integrity of existing wells MW-1 and
MW-2 intact. If during the excavation activities it becomes necessary to
destroy one or both of the monitoring wells, they will be destroyed by
excavating the casing from the subsurface and removing or breaking the
casing off below groundwater. If necessary, these wells will be replaced I
during the mobilization for installation of the additional monitoring wells.
During excavation, the soil will be sampled and screened as described in
Attachment A. If OVM screening indicates that the excavation has reached
the lateral limits of hydrocarbon impact, a soil sample will be collected and
transported to the mobile laboratory for analyses. The excavation will be i
extended vertically to the groundwater(estimated at 10 feet) and laterally to
the limits of hydrocarbons or until the safe operating limits of the equipment
i
are reached. Soil samples will be collected from the sidewalls of the
excavation above the capillary fringe to verify hydrocarbon levels. !
s
A State Certified Mobile Laboratory will be utilized to analyze soil samples
collected from the excavation boundaries for TPHg and benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and total xylenes(BTEX)using EPA Methods 8015 (modified)
and 8020, respectively, to evaluate the extent to which excavation will be
necessary. The mobile laboratory will also be used as much as possible to
characterize the stockpiled soil.
