In the event that any of the archaeological site <br /> indicators described above are found,work should be halted within a zone <br /> established by the project archaeologist and Native American monitor until a plan <br /> for the evaluation of the resource under CEQA guidelines has been submitted to <br /> the appropriate permitting agency for approval. <br /> If any potential cultural resources are encountered during any ground disturbing <br /> activities, the following measures shall be implemented: <br /> (a). If prehistoric archaeological resources are discovered during excavation and <br /> construction of the proposed project,the project sponsor along with a qualified <br /> archaeologist and Native American monitor shall suspend all work in the <br /> immediate vicinity of the find pending site investigation by a qualified <br /> archaeologist and a Native American monitor to assess the materials and determine <br /> their significance. If the qualified archaeologist and Native American monitor <br /> determine that the find has the potential to be a historical resource per California <br /> Register of Historical Resources(CRHR) criteria, the project sponsor shall provide <br /> funding and time to allow recovering an archaeological sample or to implement <br /> avoidance measures. Work could continue at other locations while archaeological <br /> mitigation takes place. <br /> (b)Evaluative testing,normally consisting of limited hand excavation to retrieve <br /> information and materials from the archaeological site,would be needed to <br /> demonstrate the eligibility of the resource to be included on the CRHR.
