Based on this source,it appears that, of the agricultural chemicals 1
reportedly applied to the subject property, only those containing methyl parathion, methomyl and
lambda cyhalothrin are RUPs. The U.C. Davis Extension Toxicology Network (EXTOXNET)
F! web site11 and the Pesticide Management Education Program (PMEP) at Cornell University web
site12 were consulted for additional information on these chemicals.
AccordingF, to EXTOXNET, methyl parathion is a highly toxic insecticide in EPA toxicity class 1.
Y
- Methyl parathion is of low persistence in the soil environment, with reported field half-lives of 1 to
30 days [19]. A representative value is estimated to be S days.
According to EXTOXNET,methomyl is a broad spectrum insecticide classified as an RUP by the
EPA because of its high acute tonicity to humans. Methomyl is highly soluble in water, has a soil
half-life of 33 days, and its adsorption to soil particles is weak to moderate. Consequently,
methomyl has been identified as a potential groundwater contaminant.
t
f 1GU.S.Environmental Protection Agency(EPA),June 2003,Restricted Use Products(RUP)Report.
11University of California,Davis,Extension Toxicology Network(EXTOXNET),
http://cxtoxnet.orst.edu/ghindex.html.
l
12CornellUniversity,Pesticide Management Education Program,http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/.
5 "404
k
