Ground water in the region of the property is withdrawn from
the Mehrten Formation and the underlying Valley Springs Forma-
tion. Ground water flow direction is likely to be towards the
Central Valley to the west.
The property currently includes the sand and gravel quarry, a
is processing plant, waste water retention ponds, and the KRC office
and shop.
4.3 Description Of Operations
The sand and gravel deposits are excavated at the KRC quarry
by first moving all of the available topsoil with a Caterpillar
wheel tractor-scraper (see equipment list below) . The topsoil is
stockpiled or respread on a previously excavated area.
Ir Overburden is then removed, if encountered, in the same
method as the topsoil removal. The overburden is placed in a
previously excavated area in such a manner to enhance the post
mining rehabilitation plan.
Once the aggregate reserve is exposed, it is excavated with
a scrapers and hauled to the hopper. The loaded scrapers can
either dump directly onto the hopper which feeds the main con-
veyor, or they can dump onto a stockpile near the hopper. ' The
stockpiled raw aggregates are loaded onto the main conveyor with
a Caterpillar 988B front-end loader. The excavated sand and
gravel is transported to the processing plant by conveyor.
At the plant the raw materials are washed, crushed, and
screened. This process classifies the raw material into fill
sand, clean sand, concrete sand, road base, decorative rock, and
cobble stone. The silt portion of the material is washed out
into one of the sediment retention ponds. Processed material is
stockpiled on site in the form of a series of gradation specific
-, piles (see Figure 3) . From these piles customer trucks are
loaded with a Caterpillar 988B front-end loader. The trucks are
weighed and recorded before they exit the property via Brandt
.. Road to the south.
This procedure is described in the existing Permit QX-'86-1,
and no major modifications are proposed. Quarry Permit QX-86-1
restricts daily operations to the period between 5: 00 AM to 9:00
t PM of the seasonal standard time then in effect, except for
Y operations of the rock processing plant which may operate on a
24-hour basis. KRC plans to continue to limit its operations
' with these time limitations.
EQUIPMENT LIST SERIAL NUMBER
1991 Caterpillar 988b front-end loader 50W10188
1991 Caterpillar 988B front-end loader 50W1.0199
> 1971 Caterpillar 633 scraper 66M00933
1973 Caterpillar 633 scraper 66M00933
1979 Caterpillar 637D scraper 27W1184
1973 Caterpillar D-8H dozer 46A32108
1979 Clark 45c front end loader 473A-293CB
1976 P&H Model W-250 crane 42255
KRC Aggregate, Inc.
_ 2 _ April 1, 1994
i
