3
5.9 Aesthetics
Some of the existing processing facilities and equipment used
to excavate and transport the raw and processed products are
visible from public highways to the north and south. Most of the
quarry itself and activities occurring in the quarry are not
visible because the quarry is necessarily below the original
ground level. Future quarrying and processing activities are not
expected to change significantly from those presently being con-
ducted except that the location of the active quarry will follow
the plan outlined in Section 4 of this Environmental Review Docu-
ment. Reclamation of mined out areas will ensure that the area
3 occupied by quarrying and processing activities is limited.
Therefore, the visual impacts of the KRC operation are not expect-
ed to change significantly from those that exist at the present
operation.
5. 10 Public Health And safety
The proposed project extension shall not be detrimental to
the public health, safety or welfare, or be injurious to the
property or improvements in the vicinity and district in which
the property is located. No adverse environmental changes will
result.
Permit QX-86-1 requires that the existing barbed wire fence
and the steel gate at Brandt Road shall be maintained in order to
restrict unauthorized access to the project site. KRC will
continue to maintain the fence and gate as required.
r
5.11 Public Services
' Potential impacts to public services derived from the direct
operational needs of the project as well as indirect demands
t created by our employees are minimal. The reserve holding, both
j surface and mineral, is owned by KRC Aggregate, Inc. (see Appen-
dix 11. 6) . Extension of this project into the remainder of the
reserve holding will result in no significant increase in ',the
rate of production or changes in the methods of mining and pro-
cessing. The number of employees is expected to remain about the
r same as at present. Therefore, impacts to law enforcement,
schools, fire protection, health services or solid waste disposal
will remain the same as at present.
t
Fi
i
r_1
KRC Aggregate, Inc.
1 - 10 - April 1, 1994
