District Rule 4902 - Residential Water Heaters regulates the sale and
installation of natural gas-fired water heaters to limit the emissions of oxides
of nitrogen. A copy of the rule is enclosed.
3. District Regulation VIII - Fugitive Dust Rules is a series of rules designed to
reduce PM,o emissions generated by human activity, including construction,
road building, bulk materials storage, landfill operations, etc.
The following items are suggested, but not required by the SJVUAPCD to further
reduce emissions that may ultimately result from development enabled by this
project application. The applicant should be provided a copy of these measures
and encouraged to incorporate those that are feasible into the overall project
design:
1 . Housing units should be oriented to utilize passive solar cooling and heating
to the fullest extent possible.
2. Conventional open-hearth fireplaces and zero clearance fireplaces that do not
meet EPA Phase Il certification should be discouraged.
3. Trees should be carefully selected and located to shade the structures during
the hot summer months. This measure should be implemented on whatever
portion of the site (front, back, or side yard) has a southern or western
exposure. Deciduous trees should be considered since they provide shade in
the summer and allow the su_n to reach the house during cold winter
months.
4. Natural gas lines (if applicable) and electrical outlets should be installed in
backyards or patios to encourage use of gas and/or electric barbecues.
• 5. Electrical outlets should be installed around the exterior of the units to
encourage use of electric lawn mowers, edgers, etc.
District staff is available to meet with you and/or the applicant to further discuss
