SUBJECT PROPERTY AND SURROUNDING STUDY AREA INFORMATION
SSS§ 1:1 The subject property has been in rice agricultural production for the past three decades, /
farmed by the Sorrenti Family, 'It is bound'to the north by additional rice production land and
-Edwards Road,to the east and west'is-also additional rice and cropland;and to the south arc exclusive
rural homes.
SSS(2.1 NLS 2. 3.1 .3 Upgradient land use which has been in agricultural production for
man a ad s ma b nsiderto have contributed to a otential nitrate roblem. The surrounding residential structures on septic systems is extremely sparse and
could of create any significant nitrate problem. T is due to fact
that the surrounding residential structures are very sparse, as referenced. Also, there are new
residential structures directly to the, south of the subject property that were recently constructed. . 1
= NLS §1.0 B :SOIL PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS
NLS§l. 1. SUBSURFACE SOILS EXPLORATION AND SAMPLING
To analytically assess the surface and subsurface soils for comparison purposes, soil samples were
retrieved with a truck-mounted drill rig using solid stem auger. Samples were obtained from five-
-foot depths down to 25 feet under proposed Parcel 2 and proposed Parcel 5. The exploratory
-drilling locations"of these two borings are denoted on the Tentative Map found in Appendix 4, and
:.:also illustrates the percolation test locations. These two boring sites were chosen to compare
subsurface soil structures equidistant between the east and west areas of the project.
The soil samples were submitted to A& L Western Agricultural Laboratory for analytical testing
- under the attached Chain of Custody(Appendix 6). As noted on the Soil Analysis Reports, several
constituents were analyzed. "Non-nitrogen"constituents that were tested relating to nitrate loading
include the.organic matter content of the soil,pH, and the Cation Exchange Capacity(CEC).
The constituents listed above also play a role in the denitrification capacity of the underlying soil.
From the results of this Study and previous domestic'well water tests(as referenced above), appear
- - to be significant. ,Denitrification capacity is predominately dependant upon: 1.).Abundance of an
-organic carbon substrate, 2.)High soil moisture content leading to an anaerobic environment, and ,
_ :3.) High soil pH (alkaline). The organic matter content of the subsurface soils are of a low
percentage which was to be expected; however, the pH is alkaline for all of the soil samples.
Page -2-
- Chesney Consulting
