Soil samples will be collected at five foot intervals and up to two samples <br /> from each boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as <br /> gasoline (TPHg), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX). <br /> Selected soil samples will be sent using chain-of-custody record to a State-certified laboratory <br /> for analysis of TPHg and BTEX by EPA methods 8015/8020, respectively. Each boring will <br /> be completed as a groundwater monitoring well. The monitoring wells will be constructed of <br /> 2-inch inside diameter PVC well screen and casing. To protect the integrity of the wells, <br /> locking, water-tight well plugs will be installed on each well and a water-tight, locking <br /> wellhead labeled "monitoring well" will be concreted over each well. All drill cuttings will be <br /> drummed and stored on-site pending laboratory results. For purposes of cost estimating, <br /> disposal of drill cuttings is not included in this proposal. <br /> Task 3: Well Surveying, Monitoring, Development and Sampling <br /> The tops of the new wellheads will be surveyed and tied together. Measurement of depth to <br /> water in all wells will be completed to evaluate the direction and magnitude of the groundwater <br /> gradient beneath the site. The new wells will be developed using surge and bail techniques <br /> until the produced water is relatively sediment free. Prior to the collection of groundwater <br /> samples, a minimum of three well volumes (casing and sandpack) will be purged. <br /> Temperature, pH, water elevation, and electric conductivity will be measured and allowed to <br /> stabilize. Water samples will be collected using disposable bailers, one dedicated to each well. <br /> Groundwater samples collected from all monitoring wells will be submitted using chain-of- <br /> custody record to a State-certified laboratory for analysis of TPHg and BTEX using EPA <br /> methods 5030/8015/8020, respectively. Purge water will be stored in 55-gallon drums <br /> approved for hazardous liquid storage pending laboratory analysis. For purposes of cost <br /> estimating purgewater disposal has not been included in this proposal. <br /> Task 4: Report Preparation <br /> A Problem Assessment Report (PAR) will be prepared for submittal to SJCPHS. The report <br /> will summarize field and laboratory procedures as well as all analytical data. The lateral and <br /> vertical extent of soil and groundwater contamination will be, to the degree possible, defined <br /> and recommendations for additional investigation if necessary will be included in the PAR. <br /> Task 5: Quarterly Groundwater Monitoring, Sampling <br /> and Reporting (3 Quarters) <br /> This task includes quarterly monitoring and sampling of three wells (MW-1 through MW-3). <br /> Field activities consist of monitoring depth-to-water and depth-to-bottom measurements. <br /> Depth-to-water readings will be used to determine the groundwater elevation and groundwater <br /> flow direction beneath the project site.
