Mr.George Rose
August 21,2001
Page 3 .
'The percolation rate was found to be rapid inmost of the deep percolationtests. The permeable layer
is typically sandy, thin, and bounded by less permeable layers. The surface soils are low permeability, often
containing dark clay soils, which provide optimum conditions for denitrification within leach lines.Due to
the highly.heierogeneous soils, the deep depth to ground water, clayey surface soils;we do not.believe that
the rapid'percolation rate will cause a buildup of nitrates in ground water above 10-mg/L-N. This issue was
discussed in more detail in the Addendum letter dated November 27,2000.
Summary
After a review of previous work conducted at the site and work completed during this effort,.we have
concluded, that the new parcels are suitable for use with a septic system using leach lines and seepage pits.
The soil suitability./nitrate loading.study, dated October 12,2000,the addendum letter dated November 27,
2000, and the'addendum.letter dated April 12,2001 indicate a development density of 2.0 acres or greater
is suitable for the area and will not cause a build up`of nitrates in-the ground water above safe drinking'water
levels established by the Environmental Protection.Agency(EPA). All the new lots are greater than 2-acres
in size and therefore satisfy this'requirement. We recommend that the San Joaquin County Public'Health'
Services.Sewage Standards.'are followed.
Limitations ,
The summary•and conclusions of this addendum letter are based on the information provided
regarding the existing and proposed development, the use of the subject property, and the site conditions as
they existed at the time we excavated our test holes and performed the percolation test. It was assumed that
the test holes and percolation test results are representative of the subsurface conditions in the general area.
Our professional services were performed, our findings obtained, and our conclusions proposed in
accordance with generally accepted engineering principles and practices.
